This is my collection of Showaddywaddy recordings. I am always on the look-out for any Showaddywaddy related items. If anyone has anything that is not on this list or different variations and is willing to part with them, then please e-mail me.

The 'Bell' singles were not released in picture sleeves in the UK but they were abroad. Singles released in different European countries had different picture sleeves. Not even all the UK Arista singles had picture sleeves. I am interested in anything that is not on the list.

Anything marked is new to me on my last update.

UK Demo & Miscellaneous Singles

  • Demo's were released to radio stations prior to release for promtional airply on the radio. They are different from normal singles in that the label states, 'Demo Record - Not For Sale' and also a big letter 'A' so the DJ can see at a glance which side to play.
  • Demo's usually command a higher price than standard single releases. Expect to pay between £5 and £10 for a Showaddywaddy demo.
  • The b-side of the 'Take Me In Your Arms' demo is listed as 'Go Johnny Go', but is actually pressed with 'Say Mama'. Therefore, this is worth a little more then the standard demo. This error was fixed for the standard single release.
  • All are 7" singles unless otherwise stated.

    Standard UK Singles

  • There are lots of variation with the centre label of the standard singles, especially those on Arista. The most common Arista label is blue plastic, but black paper labels are not totally uncommon.
  • 'I Wonder Why' is the only UK release I know with a white label. This may be a demo, even though it doesn't actually say it on the label.
  • Note that some pre-1977 singles listed are on the Arista label - these are believed to be reissues. I am told quite a few singles originally on Bell were available like this. I understand Arista came into existence and took over Bell Record in 1975, but didn't do away with the Bell name altogether until 1976. The Bell name re-emerged for a short time in the early '80s.
  • Showaddywaddy's standard singles can be picked up for pennies in charity shops, but if buying from a dealer, expect to pay up to £5.
  • The 'Under The Moon of Love (Remix)' available on the Genie label in 1986 is particularly rare as it was withdrawn after only a short time on sale. It was also available on 12" featuring an instrumental of the title track. As a result of their rarity, the Genie records command a higher price.

    Foreign 7" Singles

  • The vast majority of foreign Showaddywaddy singles were released in picture sleeves. The sleeves vary from one country to another.
  • Foreign singles can be picked up relatively cheaply if bought over the net from the country of origin. However, expect to pay more for foreign singles from a UK dealer.
  • For ease of reference, I have listed foreign singles I have collected by country.

    Foreign Singles - America

  • The demos of 'Three Steps to Heaven' and 'Under The Moon Of Love' have the same song on both sides - one is 'mono' and the other 'stereo'.
  • 'Pretty Little Angel Eyes' has the same catalogue number as the UK version, but the label says it was made in the USA and also has Arista's USA address on rather than the English one.

    UK Albums - (Originals)

  • Showaddywaddy released eleven albums whilst the original line-up was still intact, including the Greatest Hits albums from 1976, 1978 and 1981.
  • Three albums have been released since 1984 when the original line up was no longer intact.

    8-Track Cartridge

  • The 'Yellow Album' 8-track cartridge was purchased in December 2002 - it is still shrink-wrapped.
  • The tracks are shown in a different order on the cartridge label than the LP release.
  • The 'Step Two' 8-track is in poor condition and has no cardboard sleeve. I purchased it from a USA dealer, but presume it is a UK release.

    LP's (33RPM)

  • Most of these album are relatively easy to obtain. However, the 1983 album 'Living Legends' is particularly hard to get hold of.
  • The original albums are currently being reissued by Cherry Red Records under the 7T's label, complete with non-album single b-sides as bonus tracks. As of Mar 2003, albums have been released up to and including 'Bright Lights'. The Greatest Hits compilations of 1976/8 have not been reissued, but 7T's own SWW Bell Singles and Arista Singles Collections have been instead.

  • Showaddywaddy's most recent original releases have been on CD only. Of course, the CD is now the preferred choice to the music buyer.
  • 'The One & Only' was originally released in Europe only in 1997 and was not offically released in the UK until August 2001. It is available on various labels (mainly CMC as they hold the licence), and with various catalogue numbers.
