Blue Moon

Blue Moon is one of my favourite Showaddywaddy songs and I believe it should have done better in the charts than it did do. Dave Bartram has said that the single, which peaked at 32, in fact outsold 3 top 10 records at that time, the reason being that not enough copies were sold in the selected 300 Gallup shops from which the chart was compiled.

Below is the sleeve which is the same for both the UK and German releases.

Two standard British Arista labels are shown above and below - the standard Arista blue plastic label is above and the Arista black paper label below. The blue plastic label is the more common of the two, but black paper labels are quite plentiful.

Seeing as the German picture sleeve is the same as the UK sleeve, I might as well show you the German label instead. Many of Showaddywaddy's 1980's releases were released on the London label under licence from Arista.

Inicdentally, the b-side to Blue Moon is a song called 'Really Goin' Out Of My Mind' which has a date of 1978. Presumably this was a song that was held in reserve and when 'Blue Moon' came out, it was a convenient time to stick it on the b-side. Also, the back of the sleeve says that both tracks are from the album 'Bright Lights', but the b-side has never featured on any SWW albums, let alone 'Bright Lights'. Hopefully will be released as a bonus track if Cherry Red decide to release 'Bright Lights' on CD in the future.
